Genesis G70 - Korea's 3-Series rival becomes official

The BMW 3-Series has been a sedan that has enjoyed the love of enthusiasts and critiques all alike thanks to its handling, space and comfort which made it the ultimate driving machine for so many years. The car has been on the top spot for so many years that there has frankly been no real competition for it even though there were many attempts from the Japanese, British, American and even the Italians to upstart but most of them have their cons.

The guys from Korea have been different very lately and the best example is the Hyundai genesis which launched in 2008 to tackle the Germans and was indeed successful. Genesis has now become a full fledged brand and with their cars they aim to the on the Germans with their own take on refinement and luxury experience. Meet the Genesis G70, the Korean’s answer to the 3-series and revealed today in Seoul, this sedan looks primed and ready to duke it out with the competition.

We can clearly see some proportions from the Genesis New York Concept with it’s short deck and long hood giving it that long dash to axle ratio. Luke Donckerwerkle and his team have clearly done a fine job in creating a car that looks classy and understated at the same time while not going too overboard in the defining lines. There is an overall sense of stance between the wheels and the whole car sits down very well.

The front of the car clearly gives some Alfa Romeo Giulia vibes and that is no small thing as that car is one of the best looking compact sedans in the market today. The rear is sloping and has a clean and well executed rear end with no extra lines spoiling the whole visual width. Overall a very good looking car that will attract everyone.

The interior too looks simple and functional without having too much buttons and functions making it aa very useful space to be in. There is a large MID between the dials and that gives out various information such as the mileage and oil temperature. Also present is a large 8-inch touchscreen supporting Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The use of metal in the materials all around give the whole car a very sporty vibe. There is also quilted leather seats and the latest driver assistance systems present to help in keeping the occupants safe.

The G70 comes with 3 engines-  a 3.3ltr twin turbo V6 producing 370bhp and 375lb.ft of torque, a 2.0ltr turbo-4 producing 248bhp with 260lb.ft of torque and in Korea a diesel that produces 201bhp. The Kia Stinger with which this car shares its platform is much longer and wider making this more compact and easier to handle.

The suspension and ride have been tuned accordingly to suit the required driving needs and the overall experience is sure to be wonderful. The G70 presents itself as a fresh take on a segment that is become quite boring with the cars present and with new competition incoming it is getting even more interesting. The car goes on sale early next year around the world but Korea gets it first which will help it gain the traction required to tackle the competition.

Overall this car is excellent and it is sure to stay in the market for a very long time.
